When I was trying to heal my relationship with food and stop binge eating, I couldn’t get help. I didn’t have a diagnosis for an eating disorder so treatment centers wouldn’t take me. I felt like nobody understood what I was going through. I ended up working on my relationship with food alone, which was scary, uncertain, and took longer than it should have.

The Behind The Binge™ method is the exact framework I have guided my clients through time and time again to take them from out-of-control with food to having a trusting and healthful relationship with food! Over the course of 12-weeks, you will be guided through 12 modules online accompanied by weekly group coaching calls led by me (Marissa, Registered dietitian, body image coach, and recovered binge eater!). I’ve executed this method in many different ways, but one thing is clear: the community aspect of recovery is unmatched. Connecting with others who are going through the exact same thing you’ve felt so alone in for so long releases shame, builds resilience, and improves self-efficacy. You start to see, if they can do it, so can I!

I was a lifelong, chronic dieter before I found Marissa’s page on instagram. I had been restricting my eating severely since I was about 13 years old, which led to a horrible relationship with food. When I was about 25, my chronic restriction led to my “cheat meals” look more like binges, where I would eat until I was uncomfortable. I usually would “punish” myself the next day by undereating, which only made the need to overeat at night, worse. I was afraid to buy any snacks or foods that I enjoy because of this. That is, until I saw Marissa post an instagram story about the exact phenomenon. I commented “Wow, I wish I could keep chips in my house without eating them all in one sitting.” She commented back saying that it could be possible again if I healed my relationship with food. I spoke to my therapist about the idea, looked at my budget, and contacted her about being in one of her first food freedom groups. The program felt pretty weird at first, because I had to unlearn all my misconceptions about weight, nutrition, and health. But over time, I learned to eat in a way that made me feel good, and actually gave me the nourishment so I wouldn’t binge hungrily at night. The best part was having the zoom call with a group of women all working on similar goals. When I was starting out, I often sought support from others in the group, but towards the end of my time in the program, I was also giving advice. Marissa really helped me heal my relationship with food. She helped me find my way to intuitive eating and I’ve been diet and binge free for 3 years now. This program really changed my life.
Before I joined BTB, I thought about food all day long and prioritized calorie counting and working out as frequently as possible over everything else in my life. Eventually, I started to binge eat with what felt like no control – I’d buy all “healthy” foods at the store and then eat all of my roommate’s cookies, cake, and Nutella and not stop until everything was gone. My binge eating just made me try harder to diet and restrict, but then the opposite would happen and I’d just continue to binge more frequently. I felt like I was spiraling. I joined BTB after doing Marissa’s 3 day jumpstart to binge freedom and seeing the tools starting to work – that giving myself permission to have my “fear foods” around started to ease the pressure I’d put on myself. I decided to commit to iteratively working on regaining trust with my body through the BTB community. I stopped counting calories, got rid of my bathroom scale, and continued to normalize having all the foods I told myself I’d never eat again in my living space. Now, 2 years later, I’m completely binge-free and 100% at peace with food. I’ve incorporated gentle nutrition and can listen to my hunger and fullness cues without judgment. I still have bad body image days, but I know I’ll never go back to dieting because I trust that my body knows what it needs and that I’m doing the right thing by responding to it. BTB changed how I view food and my body for the better and I couldn’t be more grateful💕
I struggled with societal and self imposed food rules for most of my college – young adult life. I never thought it was particularly bad because I never went on a specific diet. One Thanksgiving, when I was being heavily influenced by a trainer I was working with, I got mad at my mom for bringing regular rolls to dinner when I had painstakingly searched for a “healthier” whole wheat roll option. (She had tried making them and said they weren’t good.) A few months after that when everything started shutting down due to the pandemic, I heavily re-evaluated my life. I began learning about intuitive eating and then started working with Marissa a bit later. She helped me break food rules and create new beliefs around my food and body image. This work helped me to enjoy my full engagement, wedding planning, and wedding day without focusing so much on what I was going to look like or even what the day was going to look like, but how everything was going to feel. It led to a much better planning process because I wasn’t restricting my food intake in an effort to fit in a certain size dress. I was well nourished and level-headed through the whole process. On my wedding day I was able to eat appropriately throughout the day and at the reception, giving me sustained energy for the day and let me dance all night! After watching many people I know have a different wedding experience, all because of how society told them they should be acting around their wedding, I am so glad that wasn’t my experience. Healing my relationship with food benefited me again as I helped care for my sick and dying mom. It allowed me to nourish my body so that I could help care for her. It has also proven worthwhile during the continuous grieving process. It is said that grief can interrupt your hunger signals, causing you to over eat or under eat, however I have experienced that at a much lower level thanks to having healed my relationship with food. I highly recommend healing your relationship with food. It will prove beneficial in ways you would have never imagined.
I wasn’t sure if I would ever stop binge eating. This program really helped me understand what was going on with my body and mind. It allowed me to release the shame and guilt as I realized I wasn’t alone. It taught me about the negative impacts of diet culture and society’s impact on our body image. It taught me to listen and trust my body. I learned about gentle nutrition and steps to help with distress tolerance around binges. Marissa was so kind and had a such a gentle approach. She always listened, never judged and created a very safe environment allowing me to be vulnerable. All of these steps helped me to stop dieting, stop bingeing and be gentle and kind to myself. I am still learning to listen to my body, but I am much more aware of my needs and can look at them without judgement. I am so thankful for this program and for Marissa.
I really liked the group coaching calls. It was so valuable to hear about others’ experiences and to have reframes modeled by Marissa. I process best with others so this was the most impactful piece after the prerequisite of acquiring knowledge from the modules, of course. I knew dealing with my dysfunctional food habits would be difficult to tackle. I learned how to break down food rules, stop demonizing food, and am practicing listening to my body. The BTB Academy also helped me face emotional eating. I got the support I need to do some heavy lifting in the beginning of the program!
I learned a TON about how to distinguish my physical needs from emotional needs. Intuitive eating made me more accepting of my body’s needs and gave me more freedom to pursue healing in other areas. As a Fitness and Nutrition Coach, I now implement intuitive eating practices with my clients and have found they feel WAY more empowered this way!! I have struggled heavily with body image my entire life, so that will take years of processing, but if I didn’t go through Academy and 1:1 coaching with Marissa, I would still be very stuck. Now, I no longer have numbing out episodes of binge eating, and I’m able to enjoy cooking again for the first time in 10 years! I am also able to distinguish the eating disorder voice from my logical and intuitive voice. Big wins!! Phase One: Mindset
You will start by really stripping down all of your limiting beliefs around food and your body, reject diet mentality, and reframe your mindset to set yourself up for success. At the end of this phase you will feel like a blank canvas ready to build up healthful habits from here.
Phase Two: Listen to your Body
If you’ve ever felt like you can’t trust your body, you can start to mend that relationship with your body in phase two! Body trusts begins with body respect, so phase two kicks off with some deep body image work. Then, you will further develop your ability to listen to your body; not only your hunger and fullness, but also how certain foods and behaviors make you feel. You will leave phase two more attuned to your body to understand all the signals it sends you in order to honor your health and also enjoy your life.
Phase Three: Health Values
I know your end goal is to create a healthful life! In phase three you will identify what health means to you and how to live aligned with those values. From coping with your emotions to incorporating gentle nutrition, you will discover how to add healthful habits to your life that work for YOU. You will set realistic, sustainable goals so you can create a healthful life with ease that makes you feel amazing; mind, body and soul!

We meet at 5:30pm EST / 2:30pm PST. It is beneficial to attend each call, but replays will be available.
To provide the proven results of the Behind The Binge method, it’s important to expect at least 3 months in the program.
After the 3 months you can continue month-to-month in our new BTB club for as long as you need.

What you put in is what you will get out of any program. I provide my proven step-by-step framework and methodology to help you improve your relationship with food and live a life of food freedom. My clients who apply my method and follow my framework find success. For some, that takes 3 months, for others that’s a year +. Commit to the time it will take to heal, your future self will thank you!

At this time, group coaching is a feminine-energy space created for women.
